Since 1979, Los Gatos Rowing Club has welcomed adult rowers of all experience levels to the scenic Lexington Reservoir in Los Gatos California. Whether you’re brand new to the sport, a seasoned competitor, traveling rower, or collegiate on break we have a program to match your goals and experience. Not sure where to start? From starting as rowing curious all the way to highly competitive we have programs that will fit you. As you grow in experience you can move up into the more advanced programs with like-minded club members. We also offer programs for collegiate and recreational rowing.

Learn to Row

It's important that you get enough instruction in order to become a member. You can start with our Learn to Row class. This will get you ready to join one our Novice sweep rowing program. If you have rowing experience a skills refresher maybe need, this is a great way to get you back in the boat.


Each four-day class is designed to prepare you for the novice rowing program at LGRC. Completion of a learn to row class (all four days) is required before signing up for the Novice Sweep Program, unless you have rowed before.


This class gives attendees a chance to experience rowing both on the ergometer and on the water in one of our rowing shells. You'll learn basic rowing techniques which will help you transition to the novice sweep rowing program.

Once you have completed the learn to row program you will be eligible to start the Novice Masters program.

Novice Masters


The Novice Sweep program is a co-ed program. Newly graduated Learn to Row attendees will focus on improving basic skills, fitness and rowing technique. Rowers can then move to the advanced group within the program to further their rowing development.


Rowers have the option to compete in local regattas, meet other teams and have fun competing against other rowing clubs. The races vary in distance, rowers race 5,000 meters during the fall “head season” and 1,000 meters during the spring/summer “sprint season.”


*Prerequisites: Completion of the Learn to Row class or recent rowing experience

Advanced Masters Programs


This co-ed program is for adult rowers who have a solid background in rowing, either through completion of novice sweep program or prior rowing experience, and want to take their skills to the next level while challenging their fitness, strength and racing skills.


Practice takes place in eights, fours and small boats (singles, double, pairs). Coaches group rowers by similar ability levels and set lineups for both practice and regattas.


Prerequisites: Completion of two years of novice sweep rowing, or based on the coach's evaluation of the rowers skills.

Competitive Masters Program


This program focuses on preparing rowers for specific races throughout the seasons. Rowers who are interested in the program must meet erg requirements and skill evaluation by the coach to participate. Practice takes place in eights, fours, quads and small boats (singles, double, pairs).

This session further develops technique, conditioning and flexibility of rowers in preparation for the winter and spring programs

Sculling Lessons


Sculling offers rowers the flexibility of rowing in a single on their own schedule.


If you have no rowing experience, we recommend those interested in sculling first take our Learn to Row class and then join our Novice sweep program for 1 session (about 6 weeks) if they have no prior rowing experience.


If you have previously rowed/sculled, we offer certification and lessons to get rowers back out on the water.

Membership

All of the above programs require club membership in addition to the program fees. Check out our Membership Information to learn more.

Type Fee (annual) Summary
General - Age 27+ $750 This membership runs annually September 1 - August 31. General membership entitles use of rowing and weight training equipment (subject to availability/priorities), facilities, an option to rent private boat storage if available, and access to Lexington Reservoir. This membership option also provides for participation in club organized coached rowing programs (additional fees apply).
General - Age 18-26 $375 General membership for those under 27 provides the same benefits as the over 27 option. While under-27 members are able to participate in coached rowing programs, please note that US Rowing regulations classify this age group as Open or AA. As such, this age group will generally not race with over-27 groups.
General - Age 75+ $375 General membership for those 75 and over provides the same benefits as the over 27 option.
Summer Collegiate $75

(June - September) This option is for LGRC alumni and collegiate rowers (must be participating in a college-level rowing program) who wish to continue their fitness and training on an independent basis. Summer members have access to club facilities, equipment (subject to availability/priorities) and Lexington Reservoir. No coaching is included. The summer program runs from June 1 through the end of September.

Out-of-Area $275 This membership option is for out-of-area members who are able to use LGRC facilities only half of the year or less. Out-of-area members must reside at least 100 miles from Los Gatos when they are out of the area. Out-of-area members are entitled to all general membership benefits.
Sustaining $200 Los Gatos Rowing Club is very much an alumni and family-oriented club. We welcome non-rowing members who are interested in joining the community organization. Sustaining members are welcome at all club functions and events and will be included in club correspondences but are not voting members. Sustaining members can use the facilities and equipment a maximum of 5 times per membership year, providing they have certified rowing experience, and are required to sign a USRowing “Release of Liability” waiver and the LGRC Swim Waiver.
San Jose State Student $100 per semester

 

Available only to currently-enrolled SJSU students who have completed an SJSU Intro To Rowing class or have verifiable previous high school rowing experience. Non-voting membership. Restricted rowing times.

Private Boat Storage $700 for a double, $500 for a single. A limited number of private member boat storage spaces are available inside the LGRC boathouse for members to store single and double sculling boats. Storage rates: $700 for a double, $500 for a single.
